Fridge off-level not working

Prior to leaving for an RV trip, we bring the 5th wheel in from storage and park it on our driveway for a couple of days to pack, clean, etc. The driveway is slightly slanted, and therefore the fridge won't work on electric or gas (confirmed by the owners' manual). We have no opportunity to park the truck/trailer unit anywhere on the street, where it is level. Is there a way to solve this problem? We have a lot of fresh and frozen food that needs to be kept cool while we travel the first day and until we can get the fridge cool that evening.

  • If it is ONLY SLIGHTLY off level in your driveway.........THEN Level trailer and run fridge

IF unable to level trailer then driveway must be more then 'slightly' off level

Just remember to FULL CHOCK wheels ...BOTH sides to prevent trailer from rolling away

An absorption rv fridge WILL operate 'off level' unless it it REALLY WAY Off level OR has an aftermarket device ie:ARP

Slightly off level just causes PERMANENT damage that is accumulative hence the warnings in fridge manuals about off level operation
  • Other than what was already suggested, I can only suggest looking into replacing your 3-way LPG refrigerator with the new style compressor fridge for RVs that run off 12 volts. Pricey option, but will preclude any future need to be level.
  • Use the RV fridge like a cooler. We use ice and dry ice to cool the fridge and freezer down until we can turn them on.
  • We usually bring a big ice chest for all the drinks so the frig door is being opened constantly. Maybe you could transport food in the ice chest and stock fridge in camp. Can you disconnect truck from trailer in the driveway? Blocks and full extension of the rear jacks and front jacks nearly or not extended?
  • wooden blocks under the tires or frame . and it takes about 12hrs to get the frig working right. get the bubble inside the two marks and you should be good perfect level just is a hard thing to do.
