Front Living Opinions and Manufacturer Opinions

Wife has been bugging me to upgrade our 5th to one of the larger, front living room, fifth wheel models.

Have looked online at Redwood, Infinity, Montana, Cardinal, etc..., and would like some opinions before we actually try to find some dealers and make some road trips.

Any real-world experience with a front living room model, and even manufacturer quality and customer support, would be great.

Thanks in advance,

Ken
  • As you can see by our sig we have an oldie. The front living is what sold Patti. We both LOVE the front living. Ours has a hitch weigh of approx 1900# and a "empty weight" of approx 8400#. To upgrade to another FL we would new a new tow vehicle and I doubt that is going to happen.
So bottomline a thumbs up on the FL.
  • WE love our Cardinal 3800FL. Have been living in it full time since March and love the 23 CF residential refer and the 55 inch tv in the living room. The Cardinal also has full basement storage unlike some of the other models we looked at. The actual length of this unit is 43 feet and with 5 slides makes for a lot of interior room.
  • Thanks everyone for the comments.

I had researched the Bighorn, but did not know about the KZ or Open Range. I will do a little digging on those two manufacturers and models as well.

As for New Horizon, my pockets aren't that deep...

    ;)
  • we have owned a KZ STONE RIDGE 38fl for about a year and a half. we've been out about 75 nights and put about 10k miles on it. this is our 4th fifth wheel in the last 8 years. The other 3 were CARDINALS. We LOVE our front living unit. It, and almost all of the other front living units are probably the roomiest units on the market today. The STONE RIDGE is, in my opinion, the most "wide open" of all the fl units. And I have looked at every other fl on the market today that I'm aware of. Also, Ken, the recliner is positioned so you look straight at a 46" flatscreen! Also, ZERO problems since we've owned the unit. We pull with a 2012 chevy 2500hd duramax/allison, and it has done a wonderful job with no scary incidents. The Stone Ridge is well balanced and pulls easily. I highly recommend it.
  • New Horizon, get the exact floor-plan you want. Of course you have to have deep pockets
  • I will say that I do not own a front living room 5th wheel but I have looked at a few and the one thing that turns me off is the location of the television. Almost all of the floorplans show television at a 45 degree angle from the recliners-I want my television straight in front of me.
  • We had 2 front livingroom fivers and loved the floorplan, but got tired of the stairs as the years moved on, knee pain.
