Fuel mileage

We where in the market to buy a class A diesel pusher within the next 6 mos. But with the new leadership in DC I’m afraid of the fuel cost going nuts. Therefore we have been thinking about buying a new DIESEL1 ton DRW pickup and going the 5th Wh route.
Curious as to what’s the typical fuel mileage pulling a 5er with a diesel pickup.
PS. Anyone have experience on towing a tag V 5er with the same vehicle and comparing mileage?

Well the 7.3 gas engine doesn’t use DEF. If you are looking at a gas engine to diesel, only need about half the number of oil changes, Ram can go 15,000 miles. My 2001 Ram Cummins I changed the oil every 10,000 miles, no issues and inside still clean at 300,000 miles, better towing mileage and better power.
We get about 11mpg towing 13,000#.
  • A few years back we spent most of a couple of years on the road in a DP. Fuel prices rose to over $5 a gallon. On one occasion I put in $400 worth, and I think I maxed at $500 Canadian once!
But in the total picture of the costs of RV'ing it seemed manageable.

I'd say if you can afford the rig you like, don't obsess about what might or might not happen in the future. Just do it!
