True, you would still be overloaded by the numbers, but, no one will ever check or care and no, it's not illegal. The numbers on the door sticker reflect the capabilities of the truck as it left the factory, they do not reflect it's capabilities after you have modified it.

I think with that size trailer OP would be happier with a dually. A 2015 Dmax is worth a lot so it wouldn't cost too much to upsize the truck to a dually. Trading for a SRW 1 ton would be idiotic - a couple hundred bucks for bags or timbrens would accomplish the same thing for a lot less money.
As far as legality goes, as long as you are registered properly you are legal.
