Galley Grey Tank Location - 2014 Montana 3402RL

Your grey tank pull is located on the Driver's side behind the rear wheels, under the rear slide. Who knew?

You have 93 gallons of grey water capacity, but in two tanks. The one for the kitchen is not mentioned in any of the information given to you by your dealer.

We would love to hear from anyone benefited by this post.

  • We have an Everest and it also has the second tank. I have found, reading through the RV forums over the years, many Keystone products have this set up. It is the first thing I now think of when someone says thier sink seems to be stopped up and they just drained the grey water tank.

No - some are bright blue.

I assume the intend is to make the hose stand out so someone walking between two rigs sees the hose and doesn't trip on it - and worse pull it off the sewer connection of the trailer.

Since you're new - I'll go over some basic practices.

In campgrounds - it is acceptable to leave the sewer hose connected and leave the grey tank valve open. So the shower and sink water doesn't fill the tanks.

Do not leave the black tank valve open. Most campgrounds specifically prohibit that - but more importantly, you need water in the black tank to help liquefy the wastes (poop & tp) and to let your chemicals work.

The day before leaving - most of us will close the grey tanks valve(s) and be sure to take a long shower.

That way after dumping the black tank - we have plenty of water in the grey tank to flush out the sewer hose.

There are some locations - the Grand Canyon is one - where you should not leave your sewer hose connected to your trailer unless you are actually dumping.

Birds in the area have figured out there might be tasty bits of food in the hose and like to peck holes in the sewer lines.
  • We are new to this RV'ing adventure (old and retired) It has made us realize how out of shape and how much work is required. I posted the original information hoping to save somebody else from getting that look of puzzlement as the grey tank 2 continued to fill up but not emptying when we pulled the one you would think would work. Ha. Thank God for the internet. We found this site and the comments that other people had posted but the thread was closed… so I started this new one. If anybody knows of any other tricky stuff, please post it. We are thinking we might just sell this whole rig and buy a second stick built house and eliminate some of what seems to lead to stress…. Beautiful day here in Palm Desert CA and I opened the shade to look down on somebody's red sewer hose. REALLY? Does it have to be red? What about camo instead? Ugghhh!
  • My cougar was the same. Used a broom to pull and push the valve handle. Poor design. New crusader has the galley pull in front of the tires not under slide. Nicer for sure. Always seems to be some silly gotcha with every rig.
  • My old Flagstaff travel trailer had a galley tank dump valve under the slideout. It was a PITA to crawl under the slide to hook up a hose if we were parked in the same location for an extended time. I bought a short sewer hose (4 ft) and would put it on the cleanout before opening the slideout.
  • It is kind of obvious from the floor plan that the second grey tank dump has to be near the axles.

I've got a question though. Do Class A motorhomes with two bathrooms have two dumps? I see it on TT and 5ers all the time, but don't remember seeing two dumps on a motorhome.
  • my kz spree 5er is the same way. Wasn't listed in the paperwork anywhere that I saw but when the dealership did the PDI he pointed it out to me. Not a big deal really other than it being pretty small. Definitely fills up way faster than any other tank.
  • Yep Montana has been that way for almost a decade, but still continues to catch a few new owners. A direct reflection on the PDI I would think.

I also blame myself - as the new owner of our 3400RL also had to call me to ask how to drain the full kitchen tank - my bad - forget to tell him when we went over the rig at sale.
