My DW is an obsessed quilter. I've searched this site but haven't seen this question. Has anyone converted the garage on their Toy Hauler to a sewing/quilting room. I'm assuming you can buy them without the couches and tables in the garage, but I'm wondering if it's feasible to put tables along both sidewalls and add outlets to plug in sewing machines etc. We are fifth wheelers right now and plan on fulltiming starting in the new year. Can you fulltime comfortably in a Toy Hauler? Thanks for your help.

Yes, you can order most toyhaulers without the bed's in the back and then you have an open room to do whatever you want with. We already have outlets in the garage area as I am sure most do. LOTS of people full time in toyhaulers, very versatile with the back garage/sewing/ ham radio/ etc room.

as tmm2good said plenty of people use a Toy Hauler for other reasons then hauling toys. I've seen them setup as wood shops and sewing rooms. Before you jump a few things to check is the insulation in the garage area and availability of A/C and heat, don't assume there is enough to keep it cool or hot, verify it. Check how many circuits are available in the garage portion and that the power needs match your needs. Finally be aware that Toy Haulers tend to have much heavier king pin/tongue weights compared to their fifth wheel non-toy hauler cousins. Double check your truck capabilities and don't assume a sales person knows what they are talking about. Have fun shopping!

I took out the dinner table on the garage happy jack but left the second bed in place without mattress. Now it's a great place for my tools. Push the button - down they come. Push the button - up they go.

A friend of mine bought a Montana with the bunkhouse slide. They removed the beds and turned it into their sewing room. Might be an alternative.

Perhaps, but how we felt. They all had that industrial look to them. They were very cold and the floor plans were very basic. The new ones are gorgeous.

The older toy haulers were garbage looking in our opinion. The newer ones are just as nice as the best fifth wheels and have the versatility of that back room to do whatever you want.

If you need or might need flex space they are great options.

True, but most that offer the better amenities are too big IMHO, at least for us with our available storage space (driveway). Ours is SOOO much better since I pulled out the dinette and bought some swivel recliners.

My brother has a 5th wheel toy hauler with a full kitchen slide, double door fridge, 3 TVs, King bed in the front bedroom, and a HUGE bathroom / walk in closet in the nose.

It is SUPER luxurious

Unless you have toys or dry camp a lot where a builtin Genny and extra water are important I would NOT buy a Toy Hauler, they're so much heavier than a conventional trailer and without many of the comforts of new rigs. We're seriously considering going to a conventional fifth wheel as we don't haul but one dirtbike anymore and can do that on a rack. The new trailers are so nice with the slideouts etc.

You can get some amazing creature comforts in the newer toy haulers too. Our new fifth wheel is night-and-day compared to our old Weekend Warrior. We feel pretty spoiled. There's plenty of room in the garage for sewing, quilting, or any kind of studio you wanted. The HappiJac dinette is our formal dining room too.

That looks like a great alternative.
