Last truck was a Chevy Gasser, and I got about 9 mpg towing my fiver. Pulling the same rig with my Ford Diesel, I'm getting about 11.5 mpg (lots of mountain grades).
For me, the extra cost of the diesel engine package and price of fuel do not justify the cost for a diesel engine. My primary reason for purchasing the diesel was the extra horsepower and torque. When pulling a 7 or 8 percent grade, it made a huge difference.
