Gas milage for a diesel / gas engine

'05 F350 V10, 4.30, CC, LB towing a 10K 5th wheel. Last trip from San Diego to Central California 10mpg hand calculated. Empty city 12-12.5 Empty hwy 14. DH drives it like he stole it, so I'm surprised our mpg is still decent.
It makes sense for us we only have 37K miles on it and is our dedicated tow vehicle. We have two kids in school, so we primarily go in summer and holiday weekends.
