gas shortages along Interstates

Has anyone had trouble or heard of anyone stranded along the Interstate system for lack of fuel?? We are planning a trip to Staunton Virginia and was just wondering about how things were along the Interstate. Is this a bad time to hit the road??
  • Just make sure you fill your trash bags with gas if you find any, gas that is. :-)

I'm kidding of course. Only put gasoline in an approved container (my lawyer said I have to add that part to the post).
  • They have the pipeline back going so supplies are getting better. I think you should be good. You may see some stations out of fuel, but others will have it.

If my trip was planned for today, I'd hit the road.
  • When we were getting out of Texas' Rio Grande Valley after their ice storm, at around 1/2 tank, the misses would look up gas stations on google maps along our route with her phone and then give a call to make sure they had gas.

    That worked pretty well.
  • I was pulling through SC, GA and AL yesterday, about 630 miles. I only saw a few bagged pumps in GA. There was diesel fuel at the truck stops I saw.

At the Breman exit one Valero was totally out and across the road the other station was still pumping. So, its not a total gas desert, at least it wasn't yesterday. I saw fuel west of Augusta when I stopped at the Cracker Barrel, gas stations looked normal.

I would fill up early to be safe, I was happy to have my auxiliary bed tank full yesterday. I ended up using it to get across Atlanta, horrible traffic as usual. I got fuel in eastern Alabama where its less costly, I think it was $2.89 there.

How do I get on their email list??

This would sure make the whole thing complicated. With all the reservations we now have to make because of the increase in RV's on the road any disruption in the schedule that causes you to reschedule is going to put you without a place to camp!! Some of my reservations I made back in January, I doubt they would have empty spots this close to Memorial Day.
