Generator
It is necessary to have a generator in a 5th wheel, I know some have them some don't. We are looking to go to a 5th from our class a and we really don't use ours a lot now.

Hi,
I use an inverter to run the roof air on the fan setting. This distributes the air from the cab air to the rest of the RV.
Since I do have a medium size battery bank I can, if I choose, run the conditioner via the inverter. It cycles off when I do so while trundling down the road, which lead me to using just the fan setting.

The dash air does significant cooling in a Motorhome while traveling down the road. A fifth wheel doesn't have that advantage. I'd lean towards having a portable Yamaha 3000 Sieb with a remote start kit on a rack at the back.
Reminds me of when I was a kid, one of the vans we had didn't have rear air/con. Once Dad got cold, the air got turned down...until someone reminded him that we were sweltering in the back.
To get a decent amount of cool thru a larger motorhome would require frost on the steering wheel with just the dash vents blowing. You can get just as much if not better cooling from opening the roof vents so the hot air is pulled out (assumes modern vent covers that can be open while driving)
