Generators and current

Yea, it is loud. I called the Honda dealer about the inverter generators. Not sure what size, but the 7000 watt looks good. Oh hell, It's only money.

If you camp within 100yds of anybody buy a quiet one. You do not want to be that !!! people love to hate. Possibly have a genny that might get damaged by a pissed off neighbor.

That generator will provide plenty of power. However it will also be very heavy and make lots of noise. Maybe noise is not a factor if you camp remotely however that genset would be way too loud for me.
An inverter genset is more suited for camping simply because it is much quieter.

You dont need a surge gaurd. dont waste your money..

A generator makes 60 hz and 120 volts.

But heres the trouble you may have..

That dog bone adapter that you buy will only use one leg/winding on the generator. Thehe two hots on the dog bone are not tied together.

So if you say try to run the a/c on your RV the gen will be way unbalanced and vibrate to heck.

And since using one leg that 7000 watts gets cut in 1/2 to 3500 watts. Youll see when you try to say start the A/c with that gen..

It would be in your best interest to get a 120v only gen so that it will use both wingdings..

If you dont need the a/c and dont mind the noise this little guy is good..

I might get the two Hondas and pair them. This hauler has two TVs microwave fridge etc. a fair amount of electrical stuff. I would rather have a smaller unit.

A 9k portable genny and you take it camping? I can only imagine how loud that must be.....

You could run 4 haulers off that genny, Lol just not around me.

Or get the 30 amp 'pigtail' and then buy the 30 amp 120/240 volt plug at your local hardware store, and put them together.

I don't know who told you it 'will not work' - it will work great!

You can go to Home Depot and buy the 120/240 volt locking 30 amp plug, and then wire it to a RV style receptacle, 30 amp 120 volt. Use the silver terminal for the white wire, green for ground, and ONE of the two brass screws for the black wire. This will limit you to 'just' 3,600 watts or so. One A/C and the microwave, battery charger, ect.

If you had a 50 amp RV, you could use both phases of the generator, and supply more power to more things. This will be a heavy generator, and probably pretty loud.

I hope that you are not running the generator a LOT when camped anywhere near me. The Honda 2000 generators are only 47 pounds each, and can be paired together for 4,000 watts starting current, and 3,200 watts running current, plenty to run a large A/C unit. They are also about 50% of the noise that the conventional 'contractor' generator will make.

There is no clean or dirty power per se' On non inverter gens just get a killowatt meter and make sure the Hz is right..

That gen will run your camper fine... A/c and anything you want to run...

Yes that is it. I plan on getting a surge guard for it. Heck it ran my house freezer and fridge plus the central heat. Both freezer and fridge were energy star rated.

You do not need an inverter generator, they are very nice and put out very clean power but people have been running RVs on non-inverter generators for years. Most generators that come built into RVs are NOT inverter types; this is likely to save cost to the consumer.
The generator you have will not "cook circuit boards" if it's operating properly. If the voltage is within spec. and fairly well regulated there shouldn't be a problem. I don't know how well regulated that unit is, a surge guard would probably be a good investment for anyone who has lots of electronics in their RV, especially if they have a generator.
