- howardwheelerExplorerAgreed. It was the most ill-maintained stretch of Interstate I'd ever been on.
- filrupmarkExplorerFive years ago not only the pothole but I 10 from Sulphur La.to Texas was the worst highway we ever traveled.
- howardwheelerExplorerBasically, I'm doing what WNYBob suggested and putting on an entirely new subframe. Also, I'm fairly well convinced that bpounds is right that these hangers have been flexing for a while. I guess the rear one just finally broke this last year. They were just too long for the stresses of this heavy trailer twisting when I'd jack knife it.
- howardwheelerExplorerHere's the subframe being welded up. It will be very strong and allow the hangers to be short. We are going to put triangular braces on the hangers as well. If we are doing all this, we might as well make sure it's not going to happen again.
Notice that the cross bracing is the same as the subframe where the hangers fit. We are also putting a cross brace on the place of the middle hanger. It's just not on yet. Tomorrow we should be putting it in place and doing a lot of welding. We've had a big fire extinguisher on hand with all the sparks. - howardwheelerExplorerGot it off. When we took the other one off it turned out that the front hanger did have the beginnings of a crack on it too.
- howardwheelerExplorerPulling the old hangers free. (You might have noticed that I'm taking the pictures while my friend does all the work).
- howardwheelerExplorerA few "action" shots of fixing the trailer. We are removing the old hangers and welding on a complete new subframe. Here we are cutting off the old hangers.
