Glamis between Christmas and New Years

We just decided to go to Glamis for several days, the last week of the year.Dec 26th, to 29th. Never been there at that time of year. Only go every couple three years.

Has anyone here been to Glamis that time of year? Just wondering if it wild /Crazy? I know New years will be nuts, but I plan on being gone by Thursday.
I was planning on staying in the washes area.

TIA

  • I've been to Glamis every Xmas and New Years since 2010...

    Its exactly as Lincster says...

Busier New Years, than Xmas. But still a busy time of year there. But its not really a problem if you got a good campsite with lots of Rv's too circle the campsite...

If you only go to Olds or the drags, then yes, if its good weather like usual it will be a mob scene for sure. 10,000 people at the hill. Be careful, I wouldn't let my kids lose on the hill when its that crazy there.
Heading to the hill at night with some firewood, get to the top south side and watch the crazy stuff racing up the hill, at a distance. Thats fun to watch, and reminds me of what not to do on the hill, ever.

I can take the hill during the day for just a little while. Much prefer going way out to hill 5, 6, taco bowl, the wall, etc,and all those awesome ridges. Playing around out there is what I go to Glamis for, mostly. Even on the most crowded weekends its never busy out there, and maybe the best dunes and ridges to ride, for days... Lots of times don't see anyone but us out there. Many weekend duners hang at the hill and the drags and never make it out to hill >2...

I like the holidays at Glamis, fun to see all of us there having fun. But its like a good size city on busy weekends. Including all the good and bad things that happen in city of its size, without a stop sign/stop light in site... Couple years ago there was 200,000 people out there for Thanksgiving... All The holidays are busy...

  • Major holidays at Glamis is always busy.
I have done New Years at the dunes every year for 19 years.
I have done Glamis for the past 3 years.

It isn't "insane", but it is busy and packed, no matter where you camp.
Last year, we stayed in Wash 6 and at some point, there were about 2-3 roads to get in and out.
The rest had gotten so soft that you couldn't get a truck/trailer through without getting stuck.
  • IMHO, if you are in the washes, it's never "nuts". It will be moderately busy that week, it's pretty popular because kids are out of school. It will be really busy by New Years. Most people will arrive late Thursday or Friday with the 31st being Saturday, if you are leaving Thursday you won't see most of the traffic.

    Enjoy the dunes!
