GM Backup Camera On 5th Wheel Tailgate
Wanted to share my project of mounting an OEM GM backup camera onto my Husky Liner tailgate. I hated the fact that I had to go without a backup camera when using a 5th wheel tailage. Husky Liner use to have a mounting kit for an OEM camera but discontinued the kit years back and you can no longer find them. But it was not to difficult to fabricate a few pieces to do the job.
First I bought an OEM camera from Ebay for $50. That way I didn't need to take my factory camera on and off my GM tailgate. I started off by bending a piece of aluminum angle iron so it created a horizontal shelf when mounted to the tailgate, then the camera bracket bolts to the angle iron. After that I took a piece of thin sheet metal and hammered a channel into it in order to protect the wiring as the wiring ran down the face of the tailgate. I bolted the sheet metal twice to the face of the camera mounting bracket and twice to the bottom of the tailgate. And that's all it took. WELL WELL worth it!
