So, seven feet seems like a huge amount to tack on to a fifth wheel, but we can't find any floor plans we like much under 40'If you've gone from mid 30' to 40' or so can you give me your thoughts? Are you sorry? Was it a big adjustment?

We went from a 34' Big Sky to a 40' toyhauler. It does take a little getting used to, but not nearly as much as I thought it would. Mostly it's just watching turns a bit closer, and making sure the stopping space is long enough. To be honest I'm more concerned with the height rather than the length. I'd rather have something a bit less tall, and maybe a couple feet shorter, but this toyhauler was the only one that met our criteria. We stay in commercial campgrounds as a rule, so finding a spot isn't that big of deal.

We went from 29' to 35' to 40' over the years and I too worry much more about height. The length is not as much as an issue for us.

x3 we are 13.2 high and I worry.We went from 32'5er to 40' triple axle. Turning is a bit different (cant make as tight of turns) but overall length made no difference in traveling or parks.Jo

Went from a 27' TT to a 37' 5er. Wasn't that big of a change. Just had to get used to having more space (length wise) is all.

We went from 32 ft to our 40ft for our latest RV. Since our present Monty is our 5th RV and we have ranch trailers nearly as long, I am used to pulling a trailer.

Truthfully, I did not notice almost any difference pulling our 40ft Monty compared to our previous 32ft JayCo, since I payed attention turning and backing with both.

Our Monty, at 12ft, 6in, is one foot lower than Semi Trucks so the height is no problem so long as I understand to watch for anything that a Semi cannot handle. Where a Semi can go any RV should be able to go with no problem.

I am so glad most of you feel there's very little difference I with a 40 footer, except for height considerations. The length is one of the things that was scaring me most but it's really hard to find anything we like in a smaller length.

I went from a 32' to a 36' to now a 39'... My biggest difference is the 39' is a wide body..

Nobody mentions the ability to get into CGs. No problem with the private CGs. They always seem to have a spot for the big guys to get into.

If SPs, NPs & NFS land is your thing then you will have problems, being too big problems. Too big for sites. Too big to navigate the access roads. Can't have it all.

I can relate! Went from a 1969 Thunderbird hauling a 20'TT to a F350 DRW pulling a 40'FW. Huge difference.

Used to own, way back, a 28' FW. Yes, there is a difference between 28' and 40'. More patience.

Went from 34 to 40 then back down to our now 31. Much,much better floor plan. This shorter one seems so much roomier than the others. Even the wife likes it better.

went from a 31' TT to a 40' 5er. The 40' 5er turns slightly wider then the TT. Remember for the extra 8 feet you are going to get, the axles only move about 6. I am with everyone else, the height takes longer to get use to then the length.

Went from 32' to 38', no big change, but we are 13'4" at the highest....
I duck when we go under some bridges!
