Gooseneck welded on pinbox

I have a 2004 Nomad 5th wheel that has a Bulldog goose neck hitch welded on the pin box of the trailer. Is this that bad of an idea?
  • Not really. There are rumors that it will cause the frame to break quicker but no data to back it up. From an engineering view point it appears it would stress the frame more but apparently in real life it doesn't seem to. I've got a gooseneck adaptor on mine for over 12 years. It has been stuck in mud and pulled out with a large farm tractor, pulled thru snow and farm fields and no problems. Search other threads and see the arguments made pro and con then decide for yourself.
