The post you quoted was talking about the design and operation of the sewer system AT THE CAMPGROUND, not in the trailers.
At a campground most people have the wherewithal to form a p-trap in the drain hose to prevent any such back feed of sewer gasses. Evidently some are not aware if that.
It does not matter whether its a trailer or a motorhome, the p-trap will prevent it from happening.
