I also got tired of the large 50 cable. It has 3 strands of 6 ga. wire and 1 strand of 8 ga. wire. Since the 50 amp is balanced much less current flows in the neutral wire. So I acquired a 30' length of 10-4 cable (Home Depot or Lowes.) I removed the Marinco twist lock connector from the large cable and attached it to the 10-4 cable. Maybe not as safe as the original but works very well. I replaced the 50 double breaker to a 30 amp version. Now I have a 2 x 30 amp service. It is not possible to use that much current in my no washer/dryer and one AC 5th wheel. The 10 ga. fuse current is quite a bit higher than 50 amps so the post breaker will go before the wire. Now some will not be confortable with this, it is at least as good as using the 50 to 30 pigtail that is popular. Hope I don't get flamed too badly!
