Has anyone bought an extra freezer for their rig?

you would have to hook an inverter up to put one in the basement. Most 5th wheels have converters only. Do you have a generator on the Rv? you could do it

We have a small 5 cu ft chest freezer in our 5er. We love it.:)

If you put a small freezer in your 5'er basement does it get too hot for it to operate properly?

These RV freezers are so small, that if we decide to stay on the road for several months at a time, we would be constantly running to the nearest Whole Foods, which is not so near in most places.

We have kept a small freezer in the truck bed if we need to and plug it in at least every other day and it stays frozen.

*there are other food stores that might be closer than WF for convenience.

We carry a 1.3 CF freezer in the basement of our rig. We purchased it at Target the brand name is Haier. Works great. No problem at all with having it in the basement.

Think about changing out you RV refrigerator for a residential refrigerator. We went from 12 cubic foot to 21 cubic foot. We do have a inverter and a generator.

I found a Canadian made "Woods" brand upright freezer on craigslist that fits in my basement storage with 1/2" to spare, and I've had no problem with overheating/not working properly.

Dometic makes 12 volt/110 volt ice chest/freezers. Several sizes. We use ours as a refer for cold drinks. I mean as cold as you want them. If you want it to freeze you just turn it down and it becomes a freezer. It has handles so can be moved around like an ice chest. We keep it in our basement and it works great.

We have an Engel ac/dc refer/freezer that we use as a freezer. We have both ac and dc plugs in the basement and it automatically switches depending on the power source at the time. It typically keeps the temps around -2 degrees even in the hottest weather. We have it on a sliding tray because it does open at the top. This thing has only one moving part. It is pretty pricey but we have no regrets as it allows up to pick up items on sale or to purchase some specialty items like all the bison we bought when in SD.

Had a small freezer in the basement of our Mobile Suites. Could travel all day unplugged and still have ice cubes at the end of the day. Just don't open it. When we stopped for the night everything got really frozen again although it did not seem to thaw while travelling.
