During the summer in Maine you have puddle jumper service to Boston, NY, Philly. Portland used to have daily service to Houston, but that was a long time ago. Bangor has pretty good service to a lot of places (it has a B-52 runway), and weird places like Bar Harbor have summer puddle jumpers. Open a compass up to 100 miles on your map, and draw circles from the airports. Then camp in the circles, for a 2 hour drive. I really like "Down East", for reversing falls, Big Sow whirlpool and my favorite soft shelled lobster, just eat with your fingers, no tools required.
I lived in Houston (Lake Jackson) and worked in Maine for a year.
