Heading west finally

Sunday we left southeast missouri heading to klamath falls oregon to pick up our new to us 5ver.

With 7x14 cargo trailer in tow, we cruised thru st louis, kansas city and intercepted I 80 at lincoln nebraska.

Spent the night in lincoln, then rawlins, wy, now at the nugget casino in wendover utah/nevada after a trailer tire came apart crossing the salt flats.

Thankfully, a tire shop was still open because one lug bolt was spinning. After removing the wheel and hub as one, they welded the lug to the drum to be able to remove the lug bolt. Saved my but!

Got 550 miles to go before we meet our new 5ver. Gettin all giddy about it!!!

gbopp - I was wondering about the same thing. The 5er is most likely not going to be setup to pull that cargo trailer behind it. Can almost guarantee the flimsy rear bumper setup of the 5er will not be suited to add a tow hitch... Will have to welded to the main frame to work... Lots of bad stories on the RV net about this...

There may also be a total length problem with the STATE DOT laws to deal with as well... The whole thing can't be over a certain length when in tow...

I'm sure he has plan haha...

  • Glad to hear it was not worse.

I'm just curious, why are you taking the cargo trailer to pick up the new rig?
And, will you be pulling the trailer behind the new 5th wheel on the return trip?

    Congrats and enjoy the trip.
  • Hope the rest of your trip is uneventful and that your new fifth wheel is everything you expect it to be...happy camping!
  • Good save on that blown tire!! KFalls is a nice town....are you buying at Courtesy RV?
  • You're lucky...I just experienced my first blowout and had to fork over 3000 to fix the collateral damage. Count your blessings.
  • Well, 56 miles into the 66 mi salt flat crossing i started to feel a vibration but the road surface had not changed. Luckily it didnt get real bad till right before getting off in wendover to investigate.
  • How'd you know the tire came apart? TPMS? Glad it didn't turn out to be anything bigger.
