Heartland Gateway or Open Range

I've had my 2014 Open Range since last fall and we love it. I've had a couple of small problems but those were fixed by the dealer. Go to the open range forum and ask all the owners what they think.

Both units have similar floorplans. The 427 has larger fresh tank and more cargo capacity. Or range comes standard with king bed. Open Range also has auto level and JT Strong arms standard.
I have nothing against Heartland I believe they build a decent unit. But the Open Range appears to have more standard features. Obviously I am a bit more familiar and to some degree biased to OR. I have had no real issues with my 2012 unit
The Heartland has a bit more counter space than the 427 which is short on counter space in my book

Better get it quick, as Open Range was just bought out by Jayco....

OR hasn't been in the black for a few years, and finally took the bail out.

We are going on 1 year with our Open Range 417 residential and we love it. It is our 3rd rv and the best one yet. Just minor issues that got fixed by the dealer. My only beef is it came with ST tires. I got rid of that garbage and put on BFGoodrich LT commercials. Now I don't have to look forward to the tires peeling a treed.

Come on folks most brands of 5ers are all pretty much the same in Quality, built similar ,have the same appliances etc.. sometimes you get people that get lemons and some have great luck with their brand, pick a layout that works for ya and get the best deal you can and make sure you buy from a good dealer with a good reputation and for the love of God I do not care what brand you choose get a extended warranty in case something does go wrong and most of us with ALL brands at least have a few things that need to be fixed

First months...frig quit, furnace quit, rear jack broke, toilet broke, awning broke, shade broke, five major water leaks...do I need to go on...? It was our fourth RV and others were fine.

We recently bought a 2014 Open Range travel trailer (model in my sig). We've only used it once but so far so good. We looked at a lot of brands & models but we landed on the Open Range based on the floor plan, 2 year warranty, and OR's reputation for actually standing behind the warranty. I've heard that Heartland is pretty good about warranty work as well, but we didn't find much selection in our area, and I didn't like their floorplans as much.

We have a 2011 Open Range 5th Wheel (39') and we love it. The build quality is great compared to our previous 5th wheel and TT. We definitely plan to purchase another Open Range when the time arrives to replace our current one. We had one problem under warranty (skirting came loose while traveling--which led to the discovery of another needed repair (roof liner was loose)--and we received excellent service from our dealer. If Jayco and Open Range merge, we hope that Randy Graber/Open Range will continue to provide the great customer service that we experienced.
