Heartland rigs

Mine isn't exactly the model being discussed, but it is a 2011 Heartland. Just happens to be from the Cyclone toyhauler line.

Opinion? Most of the components used are pretty much the same as most other campers, Lippert, dometic, etc etc. and offer no real surprises either good or bad.

Construction? Well the hard parts seem to be ok, such as the structure itself, frame (though seems a bit on the light duty side), interior, etc.

Where it really falls down is when you lift the skin (beauty only goes that deep right?) and look under. Utility installation is pathetic. Plumbing, electrical, ductwork etc looks as if it were done by the lowest bidder from some 3rd world nation where standards are non-existent, and it had to be done yesterday.

Yes, it is that bad. The transfer switch (big metal box with relays in it) was held down with 1 screw, and faith in place of the other 3 screws.

There have been a slew of minor problems that were not all that big a deal to handle, and customer service/warranty issues were fairly painless, but bottom line is for the amount of money being paid out, a bit of pride of workmanship is not an unreasonable expectation.

In their defense I hear this to be pretty much prevalent throughout the low-mid level rv market, and based on what I saw during production at the Jayco plant I believe it.

Yes I did tour Heartland as well, during a plant shutdown actually, which to me was actually a better deal because I got to walk right up to units in all stages of construction and stick my nose in things. Again, expediency of installation seemed to trump all with neatness, cleanliness, and detail of installation taking the absolute back seat to "getting it done".

Would I buy another Heartland? Possibly, but I don't intend to next time around, which has more to do with lack of a floor plan that trips my trigger than anything else. Next purchase looks to be an XLR which the DW and I both like and agree on top to bottom.

A rare occurrence to be sure.

As I told you on your other thread...Contact Heartland Customer Service yourself at 877-262-8032 / 574-262-8030. Do not rely on what the dealer is telling you...

I have a 2014 Big Horn Silverado for 5 weeks , had it my possession for 2 days went back in shop for a major electrical problem. Dealer and Heartland cannot find the problem. That this and run with it.

There is a difference between relaying a factual experience and someone who states things they believe, but are actually not factual, i.e, "heartland uses particle board"...not true...they use OSB in their flooring...and there IS a big difference.

I have no problem with someone stating why they chose something else, but they at least need to make sure their "facts" are correct.

You can not go wrong with the Landmark if you can afford one. They are pricy but you get what you pay for. Love our Landmark Grand Canyon Full Body Paint

I have owned 2 Jayco Travel Trailers, Then I have owned the following 5th wheels 3 Montanas and now a Heartland Landmark Full Body Paint Grand Canyon. I have only had minor issues with any of them. The Landmark is by far one of the best built and trouble free 5th wheels that I have seen. Sure you are going to have issues with all of them. I have a camping buddy that has a Mobile Suites and does not like it and wants to trade it for a Landmark because he likes mine better. Each to there own here! I personally did not like the Redwood when we spent the day at a dealer lot setting in one and started comparing it to the Montanas that we had owned and the Landmark we were looking at at that time.
Buy the floor plan that suits you and the family best.

When someone (justme) explains why they did not purchase something another person (kakampers) likes it is bashing. But when that same person (kakampers) explains what occurred to another persons trailer it is not bashing.
Seems to me some like to have it both ways-- strange world we live in sometimes.

As some of you may know, we seriously looked at several different manufacturers when we were looking to upgrade from the Bighorn...we finally narrowed it down to the Landmark and a Mobile Suite. We are in a small campground in Rock Island, TN, and the only other people here are a working couple with a year old Mobile Suite. Last night the temps dropped below zero (-6 degrees to be exact)...we had no issues. Woke up this morning and everything was fine and working. This afternoon we got a knock on the door and discovered that our neighbor's husband is away for several days and that she had been without water since early morning...we were, to say the least, shocked. Even the pump would not come on and draw water from the on board tank, which did have water.

DH and I investigated and discovered, that even though their furnace was running and cycling as it should, the much touted water manifold that DRV puts in their units had...wait for it...frozen SOLID!! Even with their 0 degree guarantee and supposed superior insulation...yep...frozen. It is in the bay behind the wall and the UDC, and you could even see some insulation underneath in the belly.

Needless to say we were stunned...we got a heater, thawed it out and took some insulation and wrapped the manifold...they should be OK tonight....hopefully.

So VERY happy we chose the Landmark...
