heat pump

Allen, how will a Coleman HP run like this with the condenser coil mounted temp switch which is set for 18 degF. With the 18 degF and the approximate 20 degF approach on the outside air, they will shut down the compressor around 38 degF. By the time the out side air is down to 40 degF, the outside coil is a ball of ice and you get no more heat to the interior coil.

A residential unit is designed to run to colder temps than and a RV unit. Don't believe me call Coleman.

I am a mechanical engineer and worked in the industrial refrigeration field since 1970 both in service and engineering.

No they aren't anywhere near the same architecture.

I'm in the HVAC business and I can tell you they will work down to 20 degrees just not as efficient.

We have dual heat pumps too...the best feature is the auto setting...we set the temp where we want it and the auto setting decides which is needed, A/C, heat pump or furnace...keeps our rig comfortable no matter what the outside temps do...

We use ours all winter long while in the Texas Hill Country. As stated previously, it doesn't do much good when the outside ambient temperature gets below 40. The economics of it vary by the cost of propane but it does extend the propane usage so that we don't have to refill the tanks quite so often.

nope don't use it. It's either AC, windows open, or furnace. We changed our front AC when the old one died and bought one without the heat pump feature.

We have two heat pumps. Even here in Colorado they are awesome, as they are much quieter than the furnace - and Free! We have 3 seasons here, so those pumps are doing all the work in three of those seasons.

I think the option was less than $200 each, maybe $300, I don't remember but well worth the extra.

Our rv heat pump didn't work nearly as well as the heat pump in our house. I think I would rather have the cheaper heat strip in the rv.
