Heavy propane tanks!!!!

The tanks are getting a little heavier each year. Anyone have a workaround that is lighter? I have an "Extend A Stay" set up left over from the motorhome days. Can it be used with the smaller propane bottle?

  • In our snowbird park, the vendors that come in will not refill small tanks. The fill the MH tanks that are mounted to the chassis only. Very expensive BTW, with a flat service fee plus high cost per gal. Chris

  • We have no in-park suppliers of propane and finding a kid is extremely rare anywhere near this park.
  • The CG we are currently in (central Illinois) has about 20 sites they keep open for the winter. Even though they won't let you skirt around your RV they usually keep most of those 20 sites full all winter with full timers.

There are two different propane companies I have seen come through the park in the last week. They are setting up twin 100 pound propane bottles next to a few of the folks that are staying all winter. Talked to one of these customers and they said these companies provide the tanks and hook them up for you then you just call them during the winter when one gets empty and they come out and either fill it or replace it. The guy I talked to said they were actually pretty cheap.
  • Yes you can use the 'extend a stay' and a cylinder outside on ground.

Easiest way......buy a long pigtail hose and swap it with OEM
  • I hear what you are talking about. Had a 36TK3 and getting the tanks out and back into the slide/compartment was difficult. In the end one of the RV park guys would come to take them out and fill them on site and return them. Usually gave him a small tip.
  • Pay a kid to load them for you. We've always been able to find kids or staff in campgrounds willing to make a little extra money. With permission of their parents/boss of course.
  • There are PP companies that will come to your location and fill the tanks. I've found this especially true of private parks. A guy will come out and make the rounds filling anybody's tanks that need it.
