- WayfarerExplorerLas Vegas is HOT in the summer. Make sure that the AC units are in good shape and try to find a RV spot with shade. RV air conditioners have a hard time keeping up if it is 110 degrees and almost impossible if no shade. Not comfortable at all in side the RV. Been there and done that.
Tom - mtofell1Explorer2-2.50/mile is probably in the ballpark. The unfortunate thing is even if you sell and buy when you get out west you're still somewhat paying for transport. You can shop online and watch prices for a given model to go up as you get away from where they are made (many in Indiana).
18,000# is a HUGE trailer and a very capable DRW 350/3500 is the minimum. - jsumExplorerIf you can find one.....you should look at a 450 dually.
Mobile Suites are very heavy. - jffnkrnExplorerI agree with the southwest is a good place to buy, used of course. Also, maybe the few K that it will cost you to transport, you can put towards something you like. Also take into consideration you might just find one that will do you for the 2 year contract, sell it when you are done and then get another one you really like. The southwest is full of dust and dirt also so you may not want it afterwards. Is this your first unit? are you sure you want to buy, you can always rent one for a short period of time also. You may also possibly rent a small house somewhere from a winter visitor and then decide. just some thoughts, Good Luck & Be Safe ! ! !
- valhalla360NavigatorIs the RV purchase a done deal?
The SW is a great place to buy used rigs as a lot of snowbirds get fly south never to return and the kids don't want it.
If you are looking at $5-7k to haul across country, it might work out to sell the one you have and buy in the new area.
As others have suggested, that's a big unit to haul and if you are on a schedule, Mr. Murphy says, you will break down halfway across Texas in the middle of no where. - buckyExplorer IIGoogle says 2,041 miles. Any idea of current scale weight? Remember that you may pile other stuff in there right before you leave.
That is a big mam jama, I think a pro is the way to go. A lot of money yes, but you will have enough stress going on without having to deal with that also. You also will not have to jump on the first truck you find and it's possible problems. - Rangerman40Explorer18k you need a newer 350/3500 dually at the minimum.
- laknoxNomadI did a quote on a possible tow of an out-of-town buy across the country. I was getting quotes on U-Ship from $2.00 to $2.50 per mile. From what I've heard from others, this is right in the ballpark.

2008 Double Tree Mobile Suite 38 ft dry weight 18,000 lbs. Would like to buy but limited resources at this time so may need to hire someone to pull it and buy later.
RV hauling company would be your best bet, maybe cost a little more but they have the experience.
