helloI have a 06 cardinal 33le with alco #6000 pound axles(6 lug hubs) with a gvwr of 13990.Done had about 10 tires failures since new!!!I've had enough...lolTag says it should have lt235/85r16/e, but when I bought it it had st235/80r/e and never noticed what it had on tag till now!!!!Do I need to upgrade the drum hubs to 8 lug and 17.5 rims with Goodyear G114 21575R17.5???Or just stay with the 16in rims and go with the goodyear lt235/85/r16 g614 rst??? (current 16 in rims are only rated for 80 psi)Im gonna try and go weigh the rig this week to give me a better idea of where I stand as far as the weight goes, but im almost sure that its an overweight problem causing my failures!!We really love the rv and don't want to get rid of it!!!!That's the only reason its not sitting at a dealer lot right now..lolany input would help thanks in advance,Dustin

Something is not right. Good luck with figuring out just what. That many tire failures is just unheard of. I have been pulling all sorts of trailers for many, many years and only had one tire problem. Weights? Speed? Inflation? Alignment?

I'd put LT tires like a Michelin Rib or Bridgestone R250 on it and be at peace the next 7 years. You can use the search feature at the top and "tires" will give you a lifetime worth of reading.

Hey Dustin, According to Goodyear site (http://www.goodyearrvtires.com/pdfs/tire-care-guide.pdf) the ST235/80R/16/E tires are rated at 3420# each @ 80 PSI. The LT235/85R/16/E tires are rated at 3042# each @ 80 PSI. By going to a wheel that will handle at least 110 PSI, you can put a Goodyear G-rated tire which has a capacity or 3750# each @ 110 PSI.You didn't say, but are you currently using Goodyear tires or another brand.Using 18 percent (2518#) as your pin weight, that leaves 11472# to be supported by four tires which comes to 2868# per tire. The tires you have should carry the load, if they are rated the same. That is if your actual weight is 13990 or less. Hope that helps.ps: I have had problems too, with my tires over the years, using a lighter fifth wheel, but not to that extent. I have also been using foreign tires.

Dustin,My 5th wheel tops the scale a little past 15,000 lbs. I have had 4 tires fail in the 20 years we've had the trailer. The first 2 I attribute to the original General Tires the manufacturer used. The second set were Goodyears and I finally had to replace them with a new set due to age. The next two failures were my fault for not maintaining proper tire pressure each time we travelled. Mistakenly I thought checking the pressure every couple of trips was good enough...not so(we travelled at least once each month).I have the same axles and wheel size you have. For this last set I went with Michelin XPS Ribs based upon about a years worth of research on the internet. The reviews I read kept pointing to this tire as the best for my weight of 5th wheel without going to 17 inch wheels.For the past 3 years I check the pressure and maintain 80 PSI before each trip.As a side note, I use government vehicles at work. We have a fleet of 20 to choose from. It is amazing how fast tires lose air just sitting. It's now my habit to always check the air pressure before I leave the lot with one of these vehicles. Most of the time one or more tires will be 10 to 20 pounds low.Another killer for RV tires is leveling blocks. If you use too narrow of blocks they will damage the bands over time and tires will fail.Sun will also damage so keep your tire covered when not in use.

Here the picture with the ST tires maximum load left as its given and then even warning of poor reserve to my standards, and an advice of 83 psi , so a bit above AT-pressure, and a reduction to 65m/h , but that is going from N speedrated 140km/86m/h so this even lower advice speed.
I did not use your low weighed loads , are they for fully filled 5th-wheeler? If you would reduce the maxload witht the system of mine, advice-pressure would go sky high. and only low speed advice.
So a at least F-load tire in same sises LT would be advicable.
