HELP!! Furnace won't work

I'm in Bryce Canyon and during the night my furnace stopped working.

The thermostat is working but the blower only comes on and blows cold air for about 30 seconds and then stops.

I have checked the propane and all is good.

Is there anything I can do to get the system running again? It's COLD up here.

Thanks for any help!!

  • I am on shore power and I'm sure the propane is not an issue as we have used all propane appliances including the furnace since switching propane tanks.

This is a new trailer with a Suburban furnace. I'm not sure of the exact model as I'm not at the trailer right now but will get it in few minutes.

This happened to us before and the dealer said the problem was manufacturing debris that had been left in the furnace area. So I'm thinking it may need cleaning again. How do I access it and clean it?

    Thanks
  • we were in bryce last week, cold but we primarily used our fireplace.

sorry about your furnace...hope you get it working
  • If you recently changed propane bottles and had the system open, it might be as simple as air in the line to the heater. It might take a half dozen restarts with the thermostat to get the air purged. Just went through that on our last trip. Had me worried for a few minutes, because it was going to be cold that night.

If the burner doesn't light, the system shuts down to prevent raw propane buildup.

I hope it is a simple thing like that.

If your stove top is burning you can sort of rule out frozen propane lines feeding trailer.

Assuming your 12VDC is all working ok. i.e. Ceiling lights ok...

The BLOWER FAN has a sail that get sucked in when the blower start up. That keeps the propane value open. Might check to see if that is working...

Hope you brought along alternate heat for PLAN B

  • Are you operating on shore power or batteries? If on batteries they could be low not allowing the fan motor to spin fast enough to close the sail switch.
Operating on shore power, the sail switch could be not closing. A can of compressed air could blow the debris out of sail switch.
    Make and model of furnace?
