Helping a friend (UPDATE with a pic)

Have a friend who needs my help. His truck broke down and needs his 5er towed home next weekend. It is about a 75 mile tow.
Here is my delima. His trailer is about 14,000 lbs. He pulls it with a Dodge dually. I have a F350 CC SRW. I know that my truck will pull it but I am pretty sure I will be over my ratings. By how much I am not sure.
So....would you do this? Its only a one time deal. I know he would help me if I were in need. Thanks, John

  • I think it will be a routine issue for you John.

Too bad you are not a little closer, I would offer to bail you out with the 2f50 6.2 gasser. :W

Looking forward to your post back.

  • Thanks for all the replies guys!!! Just confirms my own thoughts. I will post back when I get it done. He was towing his 5er when his truck broke down. He has a 6 speed manual transmission, and that is what he thinks went out. He said when the tow truck came out to pick up his truck that the back wheels were locked!
On the bright side, this will make for some awesome campfire conversation about how the ol' Ford had to come rescue the ol' Dodge!!! (Just saying) LOL
  • Yes, help your friend. Check everything out just like you were towing your own rig. Safe travels.

  • I agree with all the above. If your truck is capable (which I believe it is), help the friend in need. You never know when the shoe may be on the other foot and you are the one who needs help.
  • This says it all "I know he would help me if I were in need". Just do it - you will be fine! Make sure brakes and hookups are all safe.

  • I would it I were you. My good friend has the same truck and he pulls a huge 41' 5er with no problem. The 7.3 is one of the best motors ever. You should be under your RAWR. The truck can handle it...
  • X2. Be sure to also check tire pressures if you decide to tow, and keep your speed down.
  • My 5vr weighed 13,830# when we FT'd

Towed if for 7 yrs. roughly 80,000 miles.

My truck is a SRW Quad cab. Right at ratings.

    I wouldn't have a problem towing it 75 miles.

Just check function of trailer brakes.......and that the Emergency Breakaway Pin functions----good trailer battery
