Hemi 6.4l towing 5th wheel

Hi all, I'm new to the forum and new to towing. I just purchased the new RAM 2500 4x4 with the new 6.4 Hemi. 410 HP, 430+ torque. Advertised to tow 12,200 lbs. its was even prep for a 5th wheel hitch. Sold seperatly of course.

My wife and are looking at several 5th wheels becuase I'm 6'6" (head room) and I like what I've read about 5th wheel stability. Actually the Forest River Silverback, 32ft., allows me to walk up right in the bedroom.

We are trying to stay around 9,000 lbs dry weight and its just the two of us. Small trips at first but when I retire we plan to travel all over the US.

What is you experience or opinions on towing 10,000 lbs with the V8 6.4l?
  • I am all about towing heavy... You will be fine with that RV in my opinion, and I do drive a dually diesel..:) Welcome to the forum and enjoy your purchase. Like Dave H said,,, don't short change your buy. We did and ended up going bigger...

I been looking for soemthing like this to pop up on the 6.4 hemi.

The tow rating seems to be underated. The 2012 F 250 that I tow with is rated for I think something like 15000 ( as I recall).

Anyway we are towing around a 11.5K with our puny 6.2 gasser :W and have no problems.

So I would recommend not going too skinpy or you will be selling the "too small" rig and getting the bigger one and losing a bunch of bucks, at least that is what I did.

We needed the room considering the two dogs and three cats that are RVers also.

    happy trails.

PS I am sure you are aware that the diesel folks, dually folks, and weight police are gonna beat you with a wet noodle. :B
