I quit using the mfg bike rack on the back of the 5er, that we ordered, and removed it. It seemed like it created a chucking effect, even without the bikes on. Now I put the bikes in the bed of the truck. I love having a long bed.....

Better than the bed is a rack on the front.

And some makes have a pull out or fold down rack as standard equipment.
  • "Everyone" isn't using them.... Some of us think it is a really bad idea due to vibration and bounce at the rear of a fiver.

Think seriously about beating your property to pieces just to gain a little cargo room.
