Traded tv awhile back , and the new one came with a factory hitch. Haven't needed to remove the hitch yet but the day will come. The shipping weight of the hitch is over200 lbs; too much for me to lift/ carry by myself. Was wondering if anyone ever left their hitch hanging from the kingpin on the trailer.? Simply release the frame latches, lift the landing gear, and drive away. Seems like alot of weight to be hanging,though. Anybody ever try it? The only other way i can think to get it out would be to disassemble it. Looks like it breaks down in 5 or 6 pieces. Vehicle is a '16 Ram dualie, 8 ft bed, w/ Mopar (curt) 25K hitch, 4wd. Anxious to hear your thoughts. Ernie

make your self a tri pod hitch remover. with a pulley up above and lift it out of the truck and pull the truck out of the way and lower it to the ground for storage or put it on a platform on wheels and move to storage out of site out of mind

I just made a table at the same height as the truck tail gate. I detach the hitch and just slide it onto the table. Made it out of 2x4's, but it needs to be well braced to take the weight. My hitch is the type that doesn't have rails in the bed if yours is the type with rails then this may not work. The hitch is heavy but slides easily.

ErnieCongratulations on the new TV, just got one like it.The hitch should easily break down to at least two, if not three parts which can easily be handled.I have see many hitches hanging from the front of a 5er, I don't see an issue.

I leave mine hanging on, but I have made a support trestle which I put under the hitch to take the weight. Maybe not needed but it makes me feel better.

More than one way to skin this cat, and most have been mentioned.

I leave my hitch in the bed and cover it with my roll up tonnue cover. Fits under the cover snug as a rug and can't tell its there. When I do have to remove my Reese 15k slider I break it down into two 60 pound pieces and take it out. I put it on the garage floor next to my boat. But I do have a folding leaf table in the shed I can slide it onto if needed. back the truck up to the table, drop teh tailgate and slide it off onto the table.

My hitch comes out in two pieces so it is easily handled by one person. But if I had a heavy hitch I would rig up a winch to suspend it from the ceiling in my garage.

Working smarter is taking it out by ways other than muscle. At 61 you're still a pup. LOL

got you all beat, use the forklift at work! Rigged up some 1/8 cables as chokers, slip them through the hitch then onto the fork legs and lift it right out. I have a Reese slider so too heavy for one person. Then set it on piano dolly and stash it in the shop.

My BIL uses a modified camper shell winch hanging from his garage rafters, drives in, lifts it up to the ceiling and drives out.

I just use an engine hoist to get mine out. Works fine for me
