Hot water heater making noise

Hi All
We have a 2006 Laredo and this a.m the hot water heater makes noise only when running hot water. It sounds like a something is running. It's a Atwood GC10A-4E 10 gal water heater. Kinda weird no leaks and good hot water. Kinda stumped at this point.
Thanks for the help
Happy New Year!

it's the check valve, it is partly plugged

I would bet this is it. Our 2007 Laredo 29RL did that and the check valve fixed it.
  • This is a bug with this type of water heater. I've had the water heater, mixing valve and check valve replaced, and it still makes the same humming sound when drawing hot water. Ours is in the back of our coach, so the only time we really hear it is when in the rear bath, I've just resolved to live with it and have read on forums others do the same.

May be the wire is heated and short circuited.

    ?????? explain
  • x2 for the check valve, probably piece of dirt caught in valve. Just put your finger on the valve to feel if there is any vibrations to go along with the humming.
If you suddenly don't have any hot water flow, then the valve has probably failed. A simple inexpensive repair replace.

  • Thanks Scott
It does sound like a buzz. I'll just keep an eye on it for now.
  • Is it kind of a soft buzz? My last one did that and it was the check valve on the output. I ignored it and eventually it went away.
