I always hook up the fiver by my self. As for opening the JAWS on my Reese hitch, I never do that as I back up to the fiver, those JAWS just open when they come in contact with the trailers pin. I use my rear view mirror to watch the trailers pin, and then just back up till i hear the jaws snap shut. The hardest part is having the trailer adjusted to the proper height to the trucks hitch. Simple solution, When i back in to the camping spot, first time, I measure the distance from the ground to the trailers snout. Then any further adjustments necessary to the fiver as to level, up or down, are noted. Then when ready to leave, I adjust the trailer to it's original setting. MY TV is a 98 Dodge Ram, thus jumping in and out of the trucks bed is not necessary, as todays trucks bed rails are quite a bit taller than mine. Plus being 6'2" helps. I REALLY do not think that you should open your jaws on the hitch, as your trailers pin will do that when it makes contact with the hitch.
