I use the side mirrors. As I am backing up I watch to see that I can see the same amount of trailer outside one side of the truck as on the other side. Then I know I am centered. As I get closer I look out the back window and watch as the pin box rides up on the hitch.
Fortunately I am tall enough to reach over the side of the truck for the latch pin and breakaway cable.
