I apologize for not giving enough info when I posted the question. Here are my problems
I am 5'11' but can't reach the latch bar, part of the problem is the fenders on the dually stick out and won't let me get close enough to reach the latch bar
I had a back operation20 years ago and I still can't twist my back more than 30 or 40 degrees to look back. If I try to turn more than that I have to move my butt around and when I move my butt I can't reach the brake or gas pedal.
With the way my hitch is set up in my long bed crew cab I can't see the hitch in the mirror. Sticking the board in the jaws of the hitch allows me to see exactly where the jaws are when I see the board sticking up. But as I said before in order to stick the board in the jaws I need to get into the bed and I need a ladder to do that.
with my bad knees and back I would like to cut down the number of times I have to use the ladder.
#1 Climb in to stick the board into the jaws.
#2 climb in again to remove the board after I am lined up, the board needs to come out of the jaws in order for the pin to fit into the jaws
#3 climb in again to stick the latch pin into latch bar.
I will be hooking up soon and the thought of climbing up and down a ladder in and out of the truck bed makes me wonder if there isn't a easier way. I am going to try to crawl on the truck bed under RV to pin the latch and secure the breakaway cable but I am not sure if I am flexible enough to do it.
I am in the parking lot of Camping world where I have been staying for the weekend and am getting ready to hook up again so I can drive into NY tomorrow. If I leave here around 11 PM so I can cross the GWB at 3 or 4 AM when traffic should be light.
Get a set of bed side steps, or full length running boards, sorry about your bad back, but got to think climbing in and out of the bed has to be painful also!
My TV is 4X4, my wife insisted on the running boards to get in (thank you)!
