The HDT folks on Escapees *must* do this - *no* windows in the back of the trucks.
Try an inexpensive (wireless) back-up camera.
Camera positioned in bed to see hitch & pin as you back up.
View on small LCD in truck in front of you - no need to turn around.
Neither one needs to be "permanent" until you run a test.
If it doesn't work - return it.
If it works - maybe it's "good enough" - or you can go to a better camera system.
BTW - an alternative to the board - CB antenna with a magnetic base. Available is lots of lengths. You want the type with a "whip" about the diameter of your little finger.
Spray paint "the whip" white or yellow.
(Magnetically) "Attach" to rear of hitch - or to the bed floor behind the hitch - aligned with the pin location -center- on your hitch.
(In/on the bed - it can probably stay there while traveling)
Make a corresponding mark for the pin on the pin box of the trailer - or even on the front of the trailer. (Test desired locations with masking tape).
Match-up the whip & line - by backing & watching in your rear-view mirror.
No help on the ladder to reach the lever.
Make sure you have a wide base type.
Be creative & - good luck!
