How do you hook up your 5th by yourself?

I have a brass colored chain that hangs on the pin box as 12v98 does. I bored a hole at the middle of the hitch head on the vertical front of the hitch and made a 3/8 by 3/8 " piece of wood about 7" long (springs loaded) and push it straight up to align with the pin on the fifth as I back up. Trailer doesn't know it gets hooked up it is so smooth. I have a welding rod with an L on one end and a round dowel for a handle for pushing or pulling the wood stick. I have a fold up plastic stool to reach what is needed to finish the job. I did once use a pencil magnet to set straight up at the middle but it fell off most of the time.
