Recently tried to purchase a trailer locally, and armed with deals from out of the area dealers I was willing to pay a bit extra to keep it local.
Negotiations stalled when I showed them the deals I wanted them to match and their arrogance became apparent...."I suppose that deal comes from a backwoods dealer with 2 service bays?"
"Actually, this dealer has 10 times the inventory that you do in over 6 locations."
Then he dropped the "try and get warranty" line on me. He even went on to say that because the factory doesn't pay anywhere enough for them to do the warranty work that they needed a 'buffer' to cover for that.
"So you're telling me that I have to pay almost full sticker in the event that I may need warranty work?"
Silence on his part.
This dealer carries the two brands I'm interested in buying, so they are in essence the only show in town for them.....and they know it.
An email to each of the manufacturers I'm interested in regarding warranty work came back with "we will pay for any repairs from any repair facility you find as long as it is cleared by us first." There ya' go.....right from the horses mouths.
So.....long story short.....in my case, because of the dealer, I will be looking wherever I have to go to get the best deal AND feel like a valued customer.
If you have a great dealer in your area, by all means support them.
Our previous trailer we bought from the 'other' local big dealer had such horrible service/repairs that I wouldn't touch them with a ten foot pole either.....sigh
We decided to take a break from the hunt after all of this, but with our dollar recovering slightly we may be heading south to pick something up.
