How many fire extinguishers on-board?

I keep one sitting outside every time I set up. Watched a MH in south FL burn to the frame. If a fire extinguisher had been nearby, they would've had only minor damage in the refrigerator area.

I have two 5 pounders, one at each door. Since it's a toy hauler with a fuel station, I have an extinguisher bracket outside and move one outside for refueling. The toy loaded in the back has it's own.

An excellent point! One outside, one in the kitchen and one in the back bedroom area. As a son of a fire Engineer/Inspector with 33 years of service, trailers, mobile homes and I would assume RV's burn about the same .. VERY QUICKLY. The gasses this type of fire gives off is poisonous.

Let's not forget about smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and when was the last time they were checked.

It's also a good idea to allow everybody who rides in the RV to practice, at least once, with a fire extinguisher so they can familiarize themselves with how to pull the pin and deploy it correctly (aim at base of the flames).

Extinguishers should be rated ABC .. meaning it can be used on all types of fires ...

I have one. In the house and a larger one in the truck.

I have 5 in my unit

Let's count: 2 in bedroom, 1 by door, 1 in pantry, 1 under entertainment center, 1 (auto) behind refrigerator, 1 (large) in always unlocked and labeled outside compartment, 1 beside truck drivers seat = 8.

We have the standard that came with the unit by the entry door. We also have one twice as large in the front closet within arms reach of the bed. I also have one in the truck cab that is accessible from the drivers seat of the truck. The number one cause of RV fires is the refrig. I wonder what it would cost for manufacturers to install one of these in the refrig compartment. It would probably reduce insurance cost, too. Phillip

Dang - Time to head to the store. I only have the one that came with it. But does it count if I have a cooler of beer outside I could shake up and spray on it?

Seriously. I need to think this one through and get some more. However, one thing we always do in our fiver is close the door leading up to the bedroom. If a fire starts in the rear of the RV, it will give us a few extra seconds to evacuate out the emergency window.

I fought fires on Oil Rigs, in the NAVY and power plants. Well head, generator house, engine room, fuel storage tank and 4KV Bus fires.

IF RV catches fire WE are running as far away from it as possible.
I refuse to try and fight a RV fire with any handheld extinguisher.

Insurance will replace.
