Jane,
this can be part of the RV pricing scenario too and allow you to keep your 5th wheel size down which can really affect the price.
Here's a thought for you as to having enough storage and closets in the 5th wheel for your time when fixing your house. Purchase an smaller single axle enclosed trailer (10 or 12' box size) at least 6' high inside or tall enough so you don't have to stoop over. They are real cheap even new and have so many uses. $2500 to $3000 around here new gets a very decent one. Usually much cheaper than that used according to condition etc. You are not going to live in it and later it makes for a great utility trailer that's enclosed. So many uses!
Inside, put as many clothes hanging rods or hooks as you want or need to keeping the clothes up off the floor as far as practical thus, leaving space for the other things you may need room for. Even an extra 110 AC refrigerator or freezer or you name it. Length of the trailer is determined by the room you may need or want. Keep in mind that usually over 12 feet in length they will have dual axles but not always. Dual axles drive the cost to buy up over another $1000 approx. and it's will be stationary anyway while fixing your home. If you don't want to keep it after the home job is done, just sell it and get most of your money back.
FWIW, we practice what we preach as my wife is disabled and has been since 2002 and if we are not going to pull a boat behind our truck camper rig and depending on where we are going, we often pull our 6' X 12' (13.5' to the point) X 6' high inside VEE nosed enclosed trailer behind. Full drop down rear ramp and a side door too and all entirely lockable. 14 years now of doing this and it works great. All her mobility needs (electric tri-cycle scooter, walker, our chairs, coolers, extra clothes in wanted, screened in room, chairs, bikes, plastic tubs filled with non perishable foods and yes all out extra and heavy drinking liquids, and whatever, are in it. Saves money too as most tourist heavy areas and regions away from home have higher prices on foods and some by a lot! It's just being smarter and more versatile!
You save so much if you stock up when any items you want to take along etc are on big sales at home. Like 10 for 10 sales or BOGO (buy one get one) sales. We are not poor at all but still watch and spend wisely. Just have to figure out how and where to carry them! Why throw money away? We jokingly say, we have to make sure our money lasts till we are 150 years old as that is our plan and we are already half way there!!! Think positive!
Lots more room now in the TC closets and storage areas and a lot less weight on the truck rear axle/tires. For day trips when at a CG, we simple un-hook and leave the trailer there! Best of both worlds as the truck rig is very nimble and can park in a normal space in a parking lot at about anything or place we go and have our smaller home right with us.
You will want a Max Air type cover over a screened roof vent for rain protection and keeping the vent open and a screened opening thru or near the floor so mold won't form or grow in hot wet climates. I highly suggest a bright white total exterior color including the vent cover so it doesn't get hot inside in the sun. So cheap and quick to add the vents if not already there and works super! Nature and breezes/wind are naturally on your side!
