What the "experts do is to get up on the roof and from the top of the highest point, usually the AC unit is take a 4' or better yet a 6' level and set it on the AC unit hold it at "level". Have somebody on the ground take the tape measure and measure from that level to the ground and now you have a very accurate measurement. That's what was done with my unit last summer while at MOR Ryde having my suspension raised.
