Hurricane Prep

You certainly don't want to be IN the trailer riding out the storm! If you decide to stay in your home, take the trailer to a safe location far enough away, then return home. If the storm destroys your house and you survive, you can always go retrieve the trailer to live in.

Get lots of waterproof containers.

Strapping down a RV is great until the one next to it blows into yours.
We are not as far east as Zack but you better believe we are watching intently. We will be ready to go if needed. Whole house gen if we stay, 325 gallon propane tank just fueled. The neighborhood was without power for 5 days from Matthew. Pine trees just love overhead power lines.
May all of those in it's path stay safe, and please, east Texas has had enough.

My recommendation is place it on level concrete connected to your truck. Lower the landing gear and stabilizers. Fill all three tanks with water to add weight and lower the CG.

Check all your caulk. Expect it to leak. Mine leaked at the roof antenna, AC, a corner of one slide and the mouse hole. The mouse hole was my fault. I left it plugged in to keep the battery charged and fridge on AC. If/when I do it again I'll unplug and secure the mouse hole.

School would be closed and unless you are raising hogs, why stay.

Ready to roll is the best preparation afaik. Board up the stick house and escape in the RV. Make a list now or start loading important items. Top off with fuel now.

It would take something mighty important to make me stay if it's predicted to hit anywhere close. I can understand where it might be cool to ride out a small storm but not to the point of risking my family's lives with a big one. Too many people have chosen to ride out storms and lost.

You're an adult and can make your own choices but if you decide to stay I hope it works out well for you. Be safe.

That was my point, why risk both homes when one is mobile? Hurricanes are reasonable slow and predictable, the easiest disaster to avoid. Wildfires, tornadoes and earthquakes are not. Having one home to live in will be much less disruptive to life style than being out of town for a few days.

NOw, this is good advice. but one year we were heading to myrtle beach. a hurricane was too. we went to Gatlinburg TN. SO did Hurricane HUGO.. so much for that plan.
3boys head for central NC. Raleigh state fair grounds has full hook ups as long as the state fair is not in town.
Jordan lake water and power, Falls lake same. some one already said Kerr lake. IF need be Guilford county has a nice full hook up park(name slips my mind) as does high-point Lake Hollow. and Tanglewood has just remodeled their campground. new Yogi bear in Asheboro.
