I'm not sure of your timing and all but there is not a lot between Lakeview and Burns but open high desert. Thats about 200 miles.
Once you get to Burns, if you have time double back south on Hwy 205 towards the Malheur refuge. 25 miles south of Burns is The Narrows. It is a place where the hwy crosses the isthmus of Malheur Lake. There is an RV park there that while I have not stayed there it looks nice. Open high desert near the wildlife refuge should give you lots of coyotes to talk with. Spend a day driving around the refuge looking at birds. Very neat area to explore. Then you can double back to Burns and continue north on 395.
