I'd love your advice on this.

I will soon be purchasing some unimproved acreage and to get around Colorado building codes because I could never ever afford to build, I'm thinking of parking a fiver out there:

1. orienting it south facing
2. covering it with a sufficient moisture barrier
3. then building a straw bale U-shaped wall around three of the sides 4. possible building in window holes
5. then cobbing over the bale surface with stucco or mud
6. then possibly building a small glass atrium over the exposed south wall.

Crazy, I know but I'd like to improve the insulation for the wintertime while still keeping it not a permanent structure. Any thoughts on moisture, insulation, or miscellaneous would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you.

You are having fun with us aren't you.I sure as heck feel sorry for any neighbors who may have to look at your castle, what colour portapotty are you thinking?
  • well it's because I can find a fiver for so much cheaper than anything else.
  • Why not get a park model?. Do it they have to pass the codes too?
  • I think so. It's pretty open space out here. I'm just wondering if anyone's heard of this before, or know someone who's buried an rv. Someone crazy =)

If you can't find straw bales you could also use gas soaked rags.
