In my traveling to another state or cross country trips a problem comes along.Maybe not on that trip, but once a year I need to spend money on a repair..How about you? Is it the Camper or your Tow Vehicle that wants a piece of your wallet.. Do they arise on the worst time to? Well on my long distance travels to Rockies or North West Its 2 tires on my 5th wheel, and its on a Sunday on our way home, in a area with no services too. Well our trip to the Rockies went well, bought the Sailun Tires for this yrs trip. Perfect no flats or blow outs on a very heavy 5th wheel, road a little hard, -a 8,600mi trip to the Rockies(Tetons,YellowStone,Glacier into Canada Ice Fields) back to NJ, what a June-July trip...Then 9 days ago I left on a trip to Vt. Nothing big, 360 miles at a beautiful CG on a Stream with the best hosts you could ever ask for.While out and Exploring our Dodge truck started to vibrate and shake. Made it back to the camp ground.Spent 2 days working on it at the CG, Owner and others came by for support,After testing and diagnostics - Need motor work, burn't #2 valve. Mechanic up here cant start for 8 to 10 day, Tow it home 1,900$ was the local quote.This is my problem, Do you have any problem on you trips Break dns, Tires and so on... How do you handle them on your trip..Finding the help, or to get it fixed,and the right people too Please post your events and how it was handled/fixed..

Rear end went out on my 2003 F450, 5 miles from Quartzsite. Limped to town. Perhaps your 12yo truck isn't up to handling the load.

I've been lucky on TVs and only tire issues on the TT. Carry two TT spares now with ramp, bottle & floor jack. I know my time is coming but I do regularly buy a new TV and service the TT.

Throwout bearing went out on my truck coming home from Oregon and had to drive the last 600 miles with no clutch. Not a problem until we got to Kingman, AZ and there was a bad wreck with lanes closed. had to sit on the side of road for 2 hours until it cleared so we could keep rolling.

Worst case, I wound up buying a new truck. Year old Ford cube van, had overheating problems from new. Dealers couldn't fix it. I put dual 16" electric fans on it. Had already put dual exhaust, in order to make an easier fit with air bags.Something went in the engine, Ford said they would fix it, but first I had to put it back to stock, then they would do the recall (this was an 87- the year the ambulance chassis were catching fire), Then they would fix it.Too much time, as I was working at the time, so new truck.

Lost a fuel tank selector valve twice. First time we were able to buy a new one and install it my self in the Ford dealers parking lot. Second one was covered by Ford under their extended warranty policy.

Yup. Been there done that.
BUT in actuality it really has nothing to do with RV'ing. Your truck was due to blow that valve at such and such miles. Could have happened to you on the way to the grocery store at home. :W

I learned how to spell "RV MOBILE REPAIR". You call them where you are at and they come. They show up to 'work' on your RV. There is no
I'll get to your RV in 8 to 10 days" like a repair shop.

Most also have their own small workshop they work out of and in real major repairs they take your RV to their shop which is never more than a couple of miles from the CG's they serve. And again work on it the same day.

Can't say enough about these guys. They know everything inside and out about RV's are way resonably priced. And if you need a part that everyone else is saying will take 2 weeks? The mobile guy will have the next day! :B

I replaced my '04 Ram because it wasn't up to handling my Voltage 3950. Loved that truck but it didn't have the guts. Your Montana is a lot lighter so you should be OK with your truck (spec wise)

Our truck is a little bit older than yours (2001) Our lift pump (FASS) went out while in Yuma, Az. At the time I knew nothing about how they worked. Got taken advantage of big time. Dealer two week waiting list. NAPA garage and so called warranty total waste of money. Mechanics kept replacing parts. By the time we left...had new draw straw, fuel module, sump on tank and new FASS.

After getting it back home in WA and taking to my mechanic...all I needed was a new FASS pump and not everything else.

I find it harder and harder to find places that fix these older 5.9's.

Something happens almost every trip out. Some small, some large.
Had a blowout take out my fresh water tank, jury rig repair until I got to somewhere I could order a new tank and install it
Lost brakes because I was to dumb to know brake fluid needs changing. Found honest place that clued me in
Ran into cable TV wire that removed my A/C from the MH. Found shop to replace.
Had brakes lock up due to defective Brake hoses which again I was to dumb to know about. Honest chevy dealer in Nashville took care of it.
I have had the radiator on the MH disintegrate and a new one built and installed at a very nice place.
So far except for one glaring exception all the places have been honest, straightforward and fairly quick.
The only bad experience with service I have had is with the sponsor of this forum. Four years later it still irks me and the response I got from the service manager just plain Pisces me off.
