Good to see you plan on upgrading.
We started with an F-150 towing a 17.5' fifth wheel. Easy, right? After loading for camping, we headed to the weigh scales. The gross DRY weight of that fiver was 3,450 lbs. In the real world it weighed 4,585 lbs. The dry hitch weight was 540 lbs but the real world pin weight was 880 lbs.
Within a year we upgraded to a 3/4 ton, which we still have 10 years later.
After a few years we upgraded to a 25' fifth wheel, with a listed dry hitch weight of 1,120 lbs and a dry weight of 5,850. We weighed the fifth wheel empty while taking it home from purchase...it weighed 6,272 lbs dry.
In the real world of being loaded for camping, the fifth wheel weighs up to 7,800 lbs and the pin weight is 1,500 to 1,750 lbs depending on how we have it loaded (short vs. long trips and how much I've stored under the bed).
