Couple things you need to understand from this forum:
1. 1/2 ton trucks are only good to pull pop ups
2. Never exceed your GVWR unless you have a 3/4 ton

A "value added" post? Seems you only go by "hear say"...1/2 ton trucks can tow 5th wheels, just have to use some common sense, (something rare these day's), and some very simple math skills. Nothing more, nothing less.
Why would you state it's ok to exceed a 3/4 ton trucks GVWR, but not a 1/2 ton, 1 ton SRW or 1 ton Dually...Why didn't you talk about RAWR instead of GVWR? Would you want to tell the OP to exceed not only his GVWR (which really is rarely, if ever used), as well as possibly his rear axle weight rating? Just curious.
I towed pop-up's and travel trailers as well as one 5th wheel with a 1/2 ton truck. Again, today's 1/2 tons are far more capable than they were years ago, but there are some that don't offer a whole lot of payload and that is where you'll get hit when figuring "pin weight" that you'll put in the bed of the truck, then add passengers, fuel, 5er hitch and anything else you'll take with you, and like any other truck, no matter the badging, one loses some of that cargo carrying capacity just getting it ready to camp.
