Couple things you need to understand from this forum:
1. 1/2 ton trucks are only good to pull pop ups
2. Never exceed your GVWR unless you have a 3/4 ton
;)
Probably right...least I hope so:)
Not sure why as this is exactly the message of many on RV.net. Many 3/4ton trucks have no more payload then a 1/2 ton because of all the options piled on but it is ok to add helper springs, timbrens, or airbags, then chip the engines to overstress the power train to boot. If one does that to a 1/2 ton then it is a crime subject to the death penalty, as it explodes and kills everyone in the area.
"the message of MANY on RV.net?? All it takes is some common sense and very basic math skills to figure it out and again, it's no one's business but the one who is doing the towing.
Also, if not mistaken, the OP asked a question? In other words they DID want input, and for the weight he asked about, I'm not going to tell them "sure, you can do it, everyone else does, and it'll be easy, especially in the mountains"...I usually give information based on my own personal experience.
All my 3/4 ton's DID have more payload then the 1/2 ton's I used, but just reading all your post, seems you had a lot "pented" up. tembrens only keep you from bottoming out. Air bags level a load....chipping(ie, adding a tune or doing deletes, does NOTHING for the suspension, GVWR, RAWR or whatever helps carry the weight.
Glad I don't live where you do if towing with a 1/2 ton is a crime subject to the death penalty.....do you feel better now that you got all that out, or do you want to talk about the 1/2 ton that towed the space shuttle:B
