I have know beef, just showing tow ratings of 3/4 and 1 ton trucks that are lower than the ops 1/2 ton 10,000 lb rating and showing that just buying a 3/4 or 1 ton does not "always" solve the issue.

I really don't go by what the manufacturer recommends that one can tow when it comes to a 5th wheel..,most who do the math know that it's rare one can tow the amount weight 5er the manufacturer states it can...usually it's based on a basic, two wheel drive, short bed, regular cab truck..not many more configurations because, again, whether you want to hear it or not...it's about the payload, ie, the trucks GVWR, or better yet, it's RAWR.... Some trucks, be it a 1/2 ton, 3/4 ton, 1 ton SRW or DRW, depending on configuration, eat up some of their own GVWR. ie, a 1/2 ton 4 wheel drive crew cab long bed will have less payload then my other example, a 1/2 ton, 2 wheel drive regular cab with short bed. It's really basic math...and you can't believe everything you read, like how heavy of a 5er any of them can tow, no matter the badging....it'll depend on if the truck, loaded, ready to camp, can also handle approx. 2,000# pin weight, as in the OP's possible scenario.
